Sarah has been part of the team since 2017, starting as a Wine Hour server, quickly made her way into an Innkeeper position, excelling at customer service. After a brief stint running most operations at another Mendocino property, she was elated at the opportunity to come back to the BGI family in a leadership position.

Restaurants, retail, and property management occupations have educated her well in the world of hospitality, allowing for an innate understanding of visitors needs. Having delved into many different undertakings here on the coast, her experience has given her a strong and confident skillset.

She’s spent several years hiking the woods and seeking out the lesser-known beaches up and down the Mendocino Coast. Exploring the different locales as part of her mission to acquire knowledge of our county’s expansive wildlands. After 20+ years on the north coast she has many great tips & sweet spots to share. Ask her about her favorites, she gladly shares her familiarity with the coast whenever possible helping to ensure a memorable visit for our guests.

A long-time fixture on the North Coast, Chef Stephen began his culinary career at the tender age of 15 washing dishes and prepping for local chefs where he learned the fundamentals of classical cooking. His career path took him to Sacramento and ultimately to the Bay area where he worked the line at Jeremiah Tower’s venerable Stars restaurant in San Francisco while attending the California Culinary Academy. Following his graduation from CCA in 1991, he apprenticed at the Sacramento branch of the acclaimed Chinois East/West before returning to Mendocino in 1992.

Travels throughout California, Mexico, Thailand, India and Nepal, along with a month-long trek through the Andes, served to broaden his knowledge of regional and international cuisines. Now Chef Stephen brings this lifetime of experience and creativity to the Brewery Gulch Inn where we are excited to welcome this James Beard-recognized talent to our kitchen.
